Janome DC1050 Computerised Sewing Machine
MACHINE DESCRIPTION

The Janome DC1050 is a Full-Size machine, built with easy to use Computerised / Programmable features. The Janome DC1050 has a total of 50 different types of stitches, including 5 buttonhole stitches.

The Janome DC1050 is a machine with solid basic features, but with some added computerised features to speed up sewing time. For example, on some of the stitch settings you can press and hold the reverse sewing button to reverse as long or as short as needed. But you can also press the button once and it will automatically sew 4 stitches backwards and forwards to lock your sewing.

The locking stitch can also be used to lock stitches, and this will work automatically at the end of decorative stitches when pressed once. There is also a button that controls if the needle always stops down in the fabric, or up out of the fabric. This can be a handy feature to speed up your sewing time when you have a preference and means you don’t need to use the handwheel to adjust the needle position manually at the end of every seam.

Is the Janome DC1050 right for my skill level?

We class the Janome DC1050 as “Competent“, meaning that this machine has features that are suitable for a sewer working at a Competent skill level. In general, machines that are classed as "Competent" have lots of great basic features, as well as a few more advanced features for competent sewers who want to experiment with more specialised effects. Some of the sewing machines that we have classed as competent may also have some automated functions to help you to sew more quickly, or a wider range of stitch types or buttonhole options to experiment with.

What size is the Janome DC1050 ?

We class the Janome DC1050 as a Full-Size machine. Standard or full-size machines are the most versatile machine size as they work for a range of sewing applications. Full-size machines are usually wider than compact machines and this gives you slightly more space to manoeuvre the fabric around the needle area.

The width / length / height dimensions of the Janome DC1050 are 37.6cm x 16.8cm x 28cm. Or in inches 14.8” x 6.6” x 11“.

The Janome DC1050 weighs approximately 5.4kg or 11.8lb.

What are the basic sewing features on the Janome DC1050?

The Janome DC1050 has basic features such as a Free Arm with Removable Cover, Standard Foot Pedal, Start / Stop Button and LED lighting provides illumination of the area around the needle. Reverse stitches, used for securing the thread in the fabric at the beginning and end of a stitching line, are created with a Reverse Button.

What about threading and setting up the bobbin for the Janome DC1050?

When setting up and threading the sewing machine, the Janome DC1050 has a Drop-in bobbin for quick rethreading of your machine. This machine appears to use bobbin class 15J so if you have these for another machine you can use these to check that they are interchangeable. Janome recommends you use the “J” style bobbin, although this may simply be a variation of the Class 15 bobbin.

There are also Thread Guides on this model and the needle threading is Automatic / Assisted. Threading guides such as small arrows or numbers marked on the machine make it easier to see how to thread the upper thread, which is especially helpful for beginners. Sewers who struggle to see how to thread the needle may also benefit from the automatic needle threader on this model, which is a small inbuilt device that swings around and helps you to hook the thread through the eye of the needle.

What presser feet are compatible with the Janome DC1050 ?

We believe the Janome DC1050 is compatible with presser feet that are Press On / Low Shank. If you already have presser feet that are compatible with this type of shank from a previous sewing machine, then in many cases you will be able to use the same presser feet on this model as well.

To be sure that presser feet can be used on different machines, or when buying new presser feet and other parts and accessories, you should always check that the parts are compatible with your specific machine number. So for this machine you will need parts and accessories compatible with make and model Janome DC1050.

The stitch width on this machine is adjusted with an Adjustable / Manual Control. Adjustable stitch width allows you to manually widen your stitches, which can be particularly helpful for customising zigzag stitches.

What fabrics can I sew with the Janome DC1050?

The Janome DC1050 is listed as being Suitable for a range of different fabric weights, from silk to denim. On many machines, these results will only be achieved with the correct needle and thread combination, so specialty needles and threads may need to be purchased separately and may not be supplied with your machine. You should consult the manual for your machine to ensure that the machine is set up correctly when sewing different fabrics, and always sew test samples to get the best possible stitch quality and to achieve perfectly balanced tension.

Can I adjust the thread tension and the presser foot pressure on the Janome DC1050?

To help you achieve the best possible stitch quality across different fabrics the Janome DC1050 adjusts the tension of the upper thread using an Adjustable / Manual Control. Adjustable upper thread tension gives you complete control over the tension of the upper thread and this tension can be manually adjusted to balance the tension of your stitches. This model appears to have no special features for presser foot adjustment, so if this feature is important to you, you may like to consider machines with manual / adjustable presser foot pressure.

Does the Janome DC1050 have any automated features?

This model also has some automated features to help you speed up your sewing time. The Janome DC1050 has an Automated Control to specify if the needle stops up or down, an Automated Control for automatically back tacking to quickly secure the thread in the fabric, but No Control for automatically trimming your threads to quickly neaten your sewing. To help you neaten fancier stitches without a messy back tack, Automated locking stitches are created one on top of the other to neaten off decorative stitches.

What is the voltage of the Janome DC1050?

With a voltage of 110v we believe this machine is suitable to use in the USA, but it is always best to consult the information provided by the manufacturer (Janome) or consult a sewing machine distributor prior to purchase to ensure that the machine will work in your region if you are unsure. Most manufacturers do not recommend using adaptors to convert the voltage of your machine for safety reasons.
